Who is this Program for?

Returning to work as a new mother was more challenging than I had expected. My confidence as a professional was diminished, and I was exhausted from the effort of trying to show up at work as if I had no competing responsibilities in life. The Motherhood Leadership Coaching program showed me how common this experience is, and helped me reframe what success looks like. This program gave me the confidence to apply for a major promotion just 3 months after returning to work, and I got it! Now I have an incredible opportunity to practice the skills that Maturn has provided me with, for the benefit of myself, my family, and my team at work.

– Katherine Trajan, Project Director, Federation of Canadian Municipalities

Coaching Sessions

SESSION 1: “Work-Life Balance” Redefined

“Work-life” balance is an outdated myth that deserves to be redefined on your terms by your current needs, aspirations and circumstances. In this session, you will define your core values, needs and time available to recalibrate what is possible for you.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

SESSION 2: Self-Care as a Leadership Competency

In this session you will gain a deeper understanding of how to prioritize your needs as a mother and learn more deeply about the science of self-compassion and how it can support you in your continued motherhood journey.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

SESSION 3: The Identity Shift - Reconciling Career Ambitions + Motherhood

Explore how your perspective on work has shifted since becoming a mother, what matters to you now and how you want to contribute as a leader at work and in the world.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

SESSION 4: Identify + Quiet the Voice of the Inner Critic

Motherhood can often amplify the voice of the inner critic and we believe an essential part of leading yourself and others is learning how to navigate through the voice so it doesn’t block the impact you want to make.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

SESSION 5: Establishing Boundaries

For many, setting boundaries can feel uncomfortable. This session will re-evaluate your relationship with boundaries so that you can integrate boundaries as a way for you, your team and your family to thrive.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

SESSION 6: The Mental Load - Navigating Stress, Overwhelm and Exhaustion

Many mothers are headed on a path to burnout because they feel like they have to ‘do it all’. This session will flip this narrative so that you have time to focus on what matters most to you.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

SESSION 7: Equitable Partnership Parenting

You may find yourself in a position of burnout in your career if you do not intentionally plan on how to share the parenting and domestic responsibilities, including the “invisible labour” of the household. This session will help support you to create your own equitable partnership model, which will further support you as you continue to build your career.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

SESSION 8: The Coach Approach - Cultivating Curiosity in your Life + Leadership

In this session, we will explore the benefits of the Coach Approach and how curiosity is a highly valued leadership trait. Learn how active listening, powerful questioning and drawing insights out of your team members will make you both a linchpin for your organization and expand you as a more impactful leader.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

SESSION 9: Defining your New Measure of Success

This capstone session will revisit all that you’ve learned and support you to determine what success looks and feels like going forward.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

The Motherhood Leadership Coaching Program is something I never knew I needed. I am grateful for the opportunity to have participated in the program and connected with so many other working moms. The balance (and struggles) of these roles is something that only another working mother will understand, so the forum was a place for me to both share and also listen and learn. I appreciated the safe space that Jen and Sonja created as it allowed all participants to be vulnerable and open about our own experiences. The program allowed me to do a lot of reflection into who I was and how that identity has shifted now that I am mother, anchored by my core values and personal mission. It’s helped me become more intentional with how I want to live, and what kind of mother and leader I strive to be.

The topics covered through the program are ones that I don’t often get to talk to others about, although many are the very existence of challenges and struggles in motherhood that I have faced so I appreciated the dialogue and real talk that we engaged in. It was a breath of fresh air. And I now have the tools and frameworks to support important conversations and create alignment and harmony in parenting as a team with my partner. I’ve learned more about myself and the areas I need to work on to become better for my organization, kids, partner and family.

For me, the time with Jen, Sonja and other mothers was invaluable and I am leaving the program with a heightened sense of self-awareness, a deeper love for my family and a desire to bring more joy into parenting and ditch the unnecessary pressures and stress that used to bother or impact me.

Thank you to Jen and Sonja for supporting working mamas and leading with grace every step of the way. The world needs more leaders like you!

“I’m so grateful I found this community of women 3 months into my return to work from maternity leave. I have never related to a group of women more, and I’m so thankful to Maturn for providing us a place to feel seen and heard.

The sessions have resonated deeply for me, whether it’s about redefining work life balance, reminding ourselves of our true values, or boundaries discussions. Jen and Sonja have a way of bringing knowledge forward, posing questions to our group, and ultimately empowering us as both mothers and as leaders.

I highly recommend the Motherhood Leadership Coaching program and feel so fortunate to be returning to work at a time when there are such incredible resources available to mothers. I encourage you to speak to your employer about whether they would be willing to support this learning and growth experience for you.”

“I’ve had the pleasure of participating in the Maturn Motherhood + Leadership coaching program over the past two months. As a mother of two young children and a leader, I’ve been fortunate to have the employer support and flexibility I’ve needed to balance the demands of my career and parenthood over the last few years. But even when I had all the employer support I needed, I was still placing unrealistic expectations and pressure on myself, which affected how I’d show up at home and work. The tools and resources we’ve worked through have helped me shift the thoughts that have been getting in my way and helped me gain more confidence to lead with my values. Learning and sharing with other leaders/mothers has been one of the greatest aspects of being a part of this program.”

– Alanna Dyani, Senior Marketing Manager, Central 1
